Recommending to you a few upcoming gaming events and the always eye candy cosplayer gatherings. Hope you will find them useful. Enjoy the events!
The Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention, or STGCC, attracted more than 45,000 visitors in 2 days last year. Pop culture heavyweights and fans packed the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Center together with 240 exhibitors from 16 countries to celebrate all things toys, games and comics from the East and the West. This year, the usually eclectic crowd will include cosplayers who will be competing in the STGCC Championships of Cosplay. Winner of this cosplay competition will win a trip to the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo 2017 for the opportunity to compete against other top cosplayers. Other highlights of STGCC include artist spotlight, giveaway and promotions, artist alley, exclusive product releases, screening and sneak peeks, DJ night and game demos.
VenVici was there last year and returned with these pictures: http://venvici.com/cosplay-singapore-stgcc-2015/
The difference between STGCC and Game Start Asia is in the focus. While STGCC visitors are fans of pop culture, Game Start Asia are fans of all things games. Lovers of eSports, indie games, retro gaming and video games will congregate at the Suntec Convention Center for not 2 but 3 days of game showcases, previews, test plays and ‘live’ competition. Last year’s gaming highlight included the Capcom Pro Tour Asia which is the Street Fighter Tournament. Winner of the competition qualified automatically for the final event in the States and went on an all-expenses paid trip to participate in the legendary Street Fighter series.
And like the STGCC, there will also be a competition for cosplayers. In fact, if you show up at the event in full cosplay attire of recognizable anime or game characters, you get to enter free, saving you $36 (if you turn up all 3 days).
Again, we were there last year and these are the pictures taken from the ultra fun event: http://venvici.com/gamestart-asia-2015-singapore-cosplay-gaming-event/
You can guess by now that we at Team VenVici are fans of Japan pop culture. The reason can be traced to the close interrelationship between their influence with mobile games. With this note, we recommend to you the Anime Festival Asia, or AFA.
AFA started in Singapore in 2008. Today, it is the biggest and most followed Japanese pop culture event in Southeast Asia, covering Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. Attendance has exceeded 1 million since its inaugural event in 2008. Check out the video below which captures footages from the very first event, highlights of cosplay, special guest appearances and the exhibitors.
